Writer / producer / director / actor Tyler Perry has revealed that the man who raised him is not his father. While speaking at the Women's Empowerment 2014 summit, Perry explained that he had sensed all along that Emmitt, the man who physically and verbally abused him growing up, was not his father. He questioned his mother on her death bed and she assured Perry, who changed his name from Emmitt years ago, that Emmitt Sr was truly his father.
Perry states that he is now in search of his biological father. He told the audience not to keep secrets from their child.
